While every birthday is significant, the first birthday is particularly memorable. Probably because it’s more of a milestone for the parents than for the baby: the fruit of their love is now striving, crawling, walking, and demanding to be played with.
The first birthday marks the beginning of the end of the “baby phase”: the cheeks are still plump, the lips are still pouty, and the gait is still wobbly, but the baby will inadvertently transform into a toddler in a few months.
The first birthday, however, is a celebration of life, parenthood, and the joy that their precious offspring brings into their lives for all parents. A Cake Smash photograph is a fantastic way to commemorate this family milestone! Here are a few things to anticipate from your Cake Smash Photoshoot:
You Decide on a Theme
You, as a parent, are the only one who knows your child better than anyone else. You know which books she enjoys, which toys she prefers, which games she enjoys playing, and which snacks she prefers. You also have an idea of what you want in your family album or on your wall.
A theme could be anything, including a color, a cartoon character, a book, a game, an activity, or a style. You can use the same theme as for a birthday party and then use the photos for invitations. Alternatively, you could be adventurous and try something new. Actually, the sky’s the limit.
But it’s also perfectly normal to be stumped for a theme – this is where the photographer’s creative eye comes in handy. Request advice from your photographer. If a parent is unsure about which theme to choose, I like to ask a few questions about the child and the family so that my suggestions are specific to the baby rather than generic or gender specific.
Birthday Photo Session
In the Cake Smash session, the actual cake eating is the event’s pinnacle. But Birthday photo sessions without cakes are just as important. The Birthday photo sessions are a chance for the baby to look around, interact with the camera, and get used to the new environment and the new person jumping around with a camera and cooing and singing. There might not be a cake in a birthday phot session but its just as good as a cake smash. Parents can choose themes and outfits where the infant can take center stage.
Unposed Photography
When the baby looks into the camera, smiles, and follows instructions all of the time, it’s fantastic. But this doesn’t always happen. With the help of a photographer that is certified and trained in handling babies things can go smoothly. They can also be playful and play without looking at the camera. It’s also fantastic! We are not photographing your ideal behavior for your child. We are photographing your child in her natural state!
