You want to schedule a newborn photo session but are unsure of the ideal time. How long exactly does the newborn stage last? There is no specific deadline; in fact, we have recorded babies as young as four weeks old, so it’s never too late!
When life gets in the way, scheduling a photography session might be the last thing you feel like doing. If you wait until after the baby is born to book your session, you might never get it done because those first few weeks are so exhausting. But fear not we have some advice on when to schedule a newborn shoot and the ideal age to do so.
Let us ease your fears by showing you how simple it is to capture lovely new family memories that will last a lifetime.
7-14 Days
Generally speaking, we advise setting up your newborn baby photo session about 10 days after your due date. We then reserve a date and time for your newborn session once the baby is born.
Baby’s this age are generally calm, sleep most of the time, and curl up easily in those lovely poses, making 7 to 10 days our ideal age for a newborn portrait session. Although newborn smiles are not yet conscious, as they nod off, newborns have a tendency to grimace and make faces that resemble grins. Babies usually become more alert and shed their frail newborn appearance once they are two weeks old.
If you want pictures of your baby feeding, this is the age to take them. You can also get up close and personal pictures of your baby’s eyelashes, lips, and feet. It’s also a great opportunity to get some lovely pictures of the baby with their siblings. Getting pictures of the baby within the first 14 days is essential if you have your heart set on those stunning curled-up poses.
Past 14 Days
Over the course of their first 14 days, babies stop being as malleable and tiny and begin to lose their downy hair, develop baby acne, and frequently develop cradle cap. However, none of these things ought to prevent you from having your priceless child photographed!
Each baby is unique, and as a professional newborn photographer, it is our duty to capture your new baby in the most adorable poses possible, regardless of age, before they start to grow and stop being so tiny.
Babies who are a little older are likely to be more alert and conscious of their surroundings. As a result, photo shoots with older infants may yield more ‘eyes open’ photos than sleepy ones. very adorable
The First Year
A baby’s first year is an intense period of learning and development. They grow up so quickly, learning to walk, talk, smile, sit, and crawl.
So, once the baby is sitting up, but not yet walking, we advise taking pictures of them because this is a wonderful stage of curiosity and smiles. Be mindful that babies at this age may become quite distressed if they are separated from their mother, so it may take some time to convince your child to cooperate with being photographed independently.
A cake smash or first birthday party is also essential.
